RIDE FOR JUSTICE
An iUniverse Publisher's choice Novel
by John Harte
The Arizona Authors Association has recognized Ride For Justice as one of the top four published novels in its 2008 Literary Contest

“…Written in the tradition of classic western dramas, Ride for Justice satisfies readers’ need for hot-footed action, down-and-dirty romance and even offers a few moral lessons about the universal contradictions of war and the complexity of relations among races before, after and during the Civil War. The writing is easy to comprehend and enjoy. . . . An entertaining, well-written ride into the sunset.
Kirkus Discoveries, June 2008
Welcome, my name is John Harte and as the author of Ride For Justice it's my pleasure to invite you to share an adventure with the riders of the Bar T Ranch. But as one early reviewer said, "hold onto your hat. This is not your grandfather's good guy shoots bad guy western."
I've set this page up so that you can click on the title Ride For Justice anywhere it appears to order the book from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or iUniverse.
Ride For Justice mostly takes place in the San Antonio and Del Rio parts of Texas during and just after the Civil War. That was a time when honor and a man's willingness to answer the call of duty were more important than the color of his skin or the sound of his voice.
If you like historically accurate stories that carry you to places and events that you've heard of or dreamed about, then you'll find Ride For Justice to your liking.
But most of all, Ride For Justice is exactly what the Kirkus reviewer said - an enjoyable ride into the sunset with some romance, hot footed action, and history thrown in for good measure.
So, come on with me and saddle up with the riders of the Bar T Ranch just outside of San Antonio. We'll travel with Tom Calvert to the battlefields of Virginia. Ride with Jamie Blanchard and his wife Peggy to Vicksburg Mississippi where Jamie joins Waul's Texas Legion and Peggy faces life in a city under siege. Then, after the war, journey with Tom's son Jack to Del Rio, Texas near the Mexican Border to avenge a merciless killing.
On the road, we're going to meet Cassie Stanton, a beautiful Texas girl with a secret; Will Hastings a confederate veteran who's like an uncle to Jack; Cody Raines, a Union man whose gun hand is faster than a lightening bolt; Ben Chandler the black Texas Ranger; and Dirk Evans who's just about as mean a fellow as ever drew air.
Ride for Justice is a fast paced, historically accurate story with compelling characters who face personal challenges as current as tomorrow's headlines and as old as dirt itself. The story is unique because this time if the Native American hero succeeds it will be because of his Cherokee heritage and not in spite of it.
There' s a lot to choose from when it comes to picking something to read. If you put Ride For Justice in your saddlebags, I think you'll like it. I sure had a good time writing it.
Thanks for dropping in. There's a place over to the left where you can send me comments or questions or schedule me for a talk to your club or a book signing. I'd be mighty glad to hear from you and if you're ever in Aiken, South Carolina, give me a call. I'm in the book.
